The Iranian Navy has detained an oil tanker — Ocean Koi — in the Gulf of Oman over maritime violations and attempting to disrupt Iran’s oil exports.
In a statement on Friday, the Army said the tanker was seized during an operation that was carried out pursuant to a resolution by Iran’s Supreme National Security Council and under a judicial order.
The Iranian Navy planned and implemented a special operation in the Gulf of Oman and seized the violating tanker with a consignment of Iranian oil, it added.
According to the statement, the tanker had sought to exploit the ongoing situation in the region in a bid to “damage and disrupt the export of oil and the interests of the Iranian nation.”
It noted that commandos and marines of the Iranian Navy escorted the offending tanker to the country’s southern coasts and handed it over to judicial authorities.

The Iranian Navy powerfully defends the interests and assets of the Iranian nation in the country’s regional waters and will show no leniency toward any violator or aggressor, the statement reiterated.
Since the start of the US-Israel war against the Islamic Republic on February 28, Iran has imposed strict control over the Strait of Hormuz, blocking the passage of vessels belonging to the aggressors and those that supported the war.
The US has enforced an illegal naval blockade targeting Iranian maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz since April 13 in violation of a Pakistan-brokered ceasefire between Tehran and Washington.
On Thursday, US President Donald Trump retreated from the so-called “Project Freedom” which he launched to open the Strait of Hormuz but failed after facing Iran’s asymmetric defense and opposition of regional countries. He, however, said the American blockade will remain “in full force and effect.”
Trump has earlier unabashedly admitted that the US Navy is acting “like pirates” in carrying out Washington’s naval blockade of Iranian ports.
