US repeats same ‘big lie’ to justify its illegal war on Iran: FM spokesperson

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei

Iran says American officials are constantly repeating the “big lie” of Iran’s purported “attempts to secure nuclear weapons” in a bid to justify the ongoing illegal war of the United States against the Islamic Republic.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said Wednesday the people of the US, the region, Europe and the international community should bear in mind that this is a barbaric and unreasonable act of aggression which lacks any logical, moral and legal grounds.

“This is an unjust war, which cannot be sold to the world through repeating lies nor can it be justified by unfounded excuses,” he wrote in a post on his X account.

The US and Israel have been waging an unprovoked war of aggression on Iran since February 28, killing Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, along with several senior military commanders and civilians.

In response, Iranian Armed Forces have carried out retaliatory operations, targeting US bases in the region and Israeli positions in the occupied territories with waves of missile strikes and drone attacks.

Baghaei’s comments came in reaction to remarks by White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt who had repeated the allegation of Tehran’s purported attempt to acquire nuclear weapons.

Early this week, the director of the US National Counterterrorism Center, Joseph Kent, resigned to show his strong objection to the US-Israeli war on Iran, acknowledging that Iran posed no imminent threat to the American nation and that Washington started the war due to pressure from Tel Aviv.

“I cannot in good conscience support the ongoing war in Iran. Iran posed not imminent threat to our nation, and it is clear that we started this war due to pressure from Israel and its powerful American lobby,” Kent said in his letter of resignation.

In a failed attempt to refute Kent’s argument, Leavitt repeated the US allegation against Iran’s peaceful nuclear program.
