Iran has reiterated its inalienable right to self-defense against the illegal US-Israeli aggression, slamming global silence on the crimes being committed by the aggressor regimes.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei made the remarks in an X post on Sunday, the eighth day of the unprovoked military assault that prompted Iran to launch barrages of retaliatory missile and drone attacks on the Israeli-occupied territories as well as on the US assets in the regional countries.

“Iran is now exercising its inherent right to self-defense under international law,” he said.

“Silence and indifference in the face of such flagrant violations and atrocities will only further erode the credibility of the global legal order and embolden future aggressors.”

The spokesman also noted that the unlawful US-Israeli aggression “torpedoed diplomatic efforts,” referring to indirect negotiations between Washington and Tehran aimed at resolving the latter’s nuclear issue.

The aggression, he added, “shattered the very foundations of international law, and unleashed a devastating assault on humanity itself.”

The US and Israel waged their brutal aggression against Iran on February 28 by assassinating the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, in flagrant breach of the country’s sovereignty.

They have deliberately targeted Iran’s civilian infrastructure, including schools, hospitals, and sports facilities, killing at least 1,332 people.

Iran began to swiftly retaliate against the terrorist attacks, killing and injuring hundreds of American forces.
