A renowned anti-war activist and filmmaker says a large number of US troopers and their next of kin are reaching out to his organization to find ways to avoid fighting in the joint US-Israeli war of aggression against Iran.
Executive Director of the Center on Conscience and War (CCW4COs), Mike Prysner, wrote in a trove of posts published on his X account on Saturday that “phone has been ringing off the hook,” as a great proportion of American soldiers are reaching out to his center to dodge participation in the ongoing offensive.
“I just spoke with the mother of a service member in this unit. They were given one last call home before having to turn in their phones. He told his mom they were going ‘boots on the ground’ tonight,” Prynser stated.
He added that the unnamed US soldier told his mother that “his commander said they were doing this to bring about the second coming of Christ.”
The anti-war activist highlighted that the US servicemen “were not told this was a combat deployment until it was too late – everyone was told they were going to training.”
The remarks come as protesters have taken to streets in major American cities to oppose US and Israeli military strikes on Iran that have targeted cities and caused substantial casualties.
Large crowds of people assembled in downtown Seattle as well as in Washington DC, New York, Chicago and Los Angeles, denouncing government violence against civilians and voicing concerns over US involvement in the war.
A University of Maryland poll shows only 21 percent of Americans surveyed backed a war on Iran, with an overwhelming majority against it.
Critics point to President Donald Trump’s 2024 campaign pledge of “No New War,” with many supporters expressing feelings of betrayal over the unlawful strikes.
The New York Times lately reported that evidence confirms that the United States targeted a girls’ elementary school in the city of Minab, southern Iran, during a February 28 attack that killed over 170 people, most of them children.
