The Iran ambassador and permanent representative to the United Nations has reiterated Iran’s right to legitimate self-defense until the unprovoked and unwarranted US-Israeli aggression ends.
“In response to the aggression, the Islamic Republic keeps exerting its inherent and legitimate right to self-defense under Article 51 of the UN Charter,” Amir-Saeid Iravani said in a letter sent to the UN chief and other officials of the world body.
"In this regard, Iran will take all measures to protect its sovereignty, territorial integrity, people and national interests."
He also denounced the war crimes being committed by the aggressor regimes, saying they deliberately target civilian infrastructure, including sports facilities, public recreation centers, airports, schools, educational centers , and residential areas.
He further highlighted attacks on Tehran’s Gandhi and Khatam hospitals, as well as the primary school in the southern city of Minab and Frigate Dena, which killed almost 170 children and 100 sailors, respectively.
The brutal and blind attacks against sports facilities in several cities have martyred a large number of Iranian athletes playing wrestling, judo and taekwondo, Iravani noted.
Meanwhile, he called on the UN chief and the Security Council member states to condemn the US-Israeli aggression that breaches the UN charter and the fundamental principles of international law.
The UN, the Iranian envoy emphasized, should call on Washington and Tel Aviv to immediately stop all their attacks against the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Islamic republic and hold both regimes accountable for their flagrant violations of the international humanitarian law, along with war crimes and crimes against humanity.
He also urged all UN member states to condemn the US-Israeli aggression and take immediate and collective action to end the bloody war against the Iranian people, as it poses an unprecedented threat to regional and international peace and security.
The US and Israel launched their illegal aggression against Iran on Saturday morning by assassinating Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei. So far, at least 1,230 Iranian people have been people killed in the terrorist air raids.
Iran began to swiftly retaliate against the unlawful assault by launching barrages of missile and drone attacks on the Israeli-occupied territories as well as on the US assets in regional countries.
