Surrender, humiliation have no place in our vocabulary: Lebanese lawmaker

A senior Lebanese lawmaker says Lebanon is facing external pressure through security, military, financial, political, and propaganda campaigns aimed at forcing the country to surrender, emphasizing that surrender is unacceptable in the nation’s vocabulary.

“All these attempts are meant to bring the country to its knees. The enemy wants Lebanon and its resistance movement, Hezbollah, to lift up their hands in surrender and wave the white flag,” Hassan Fadlallah, a member of Hezbollah’s Loyalty to Resistance parliamentary bloc, said on Sunday.

“There are no signs of deployment and storage of weapons, neither in southern nor northern Lebanon. The ultimate goal of all such pressure is to force Lebanon into complete submission,” Fadlallah added.

He added that “Surrender is absolutely not in our vocabulary,” stressing that unforeseen circumstances, balance of power, and unfolding situations may dictate a certain course of action and discourse, but do not mean capitulation to Israel and its objectives.

“The battle may subside at times, and weapons may not be used. All this falls within the framework of a clear resistance strategy — a strategy of steadfastness, resilience, and patience.

“This does not mean there are no pains, difficulties, or sacrifices. Every life and drop of blood are precious and valuable. Our blood is not cheap at all. No one in Lebanon has the right, nor should they think that this precious blood can be trampled on,” Fadlallah pointed out.

The Lebanese lawmaker noted that the heavy burden on Lebanon is the relentless Israeli aggression, occupation of its territories, failure to release prisoners, and lack of progress in reconstruction.

Fadlallah stated that the burden could be removed once state institutions fulfill their responsibilities, strive for the release of prisoners, honor obligations as to reconstruction, and pull the brakes on certain financial institutions that obstruct reconstruction and prevent funds from reaching the needy people.

The senior Lebanese legislator underscored that Hezbollah is a symbol of dignity, pride, strength, protection, and liberation.

“Were it not for the sake of the resistance group, southern Lebanon would still be fully occupied by Israel,” he said.

For the past few months, the Israeli regime, backed by the US, has been pushing to disarm the Hezbollah resistance group.

Israel and Lebanon reached a ceasefire in November 2024 after more than a year of attacks amid the genocidal war in Gaza. More than 4,000 people were killed, and 17,000 others were injured.

Under the ceasefire, Israeli forces were supposed to completely withdraw from southern Lebanon, but have only partially pulled out, maintaining a military presence at five outposts.
