Iran’s Ministry of Intelligence has announced the arrest of two operatives linked to the Mujahedin-e Khalq Organization (MKO) terrorist group, directed separately by a “command bridge” of the MKO based in Germany.

The ministry said the detained individuals had established a safe house in Tehran. Based on seized documents and confessions, the German-based handler defined their mission as committing acts of arson against a mosque and carrying out beheadings.

The investigation showed that the handler in Germany transferred a significant amount of cryptocurrency to the arrestees to finance the purchase of weapons, the safe house, and other necessities for armed activity.

Authorities state that a variety of cold weapons, two Kalashnikov rifles with ammunition, and specialized communication equipment were confiscated from the suspects.

In another operation, security forces neutralized a terrorist team that had infiltrated the country from the western borders with the intention of causing casualties during the recent unrest.

The cell was involved in an armed attack on Police Station 126 in Tehran Pars, east of the capital, on the evening of January 8.

According to the report, the attackers utilized military-grade weapons, firing more than 850 rounds in an attempt to seize the station and loot its weapon arsenal.

The assault resulted in the martyrdom of several personnel from the Law Enforcement Command, Basij forces, and citizens.

During the subsequent operation to apprehend the terrorists, the suspects opened fire on security forces.

In the ensuing exchange, one armed terrorist was killed, and four others were apprehended. Two operatives from the Tehran Provincial Intelligence Organization were wounded during the mission.

What began as peaceful protests late last month gradually turned violent, as rioters rampaged through cities across the country, killing security forces and civilians and attacking public infrastructure.

Iranian officials have linked the riots and terrorist acts to the US and the Israeli regime.

The US and Israel’s Mossad have admitted their involvement on the ground, with former US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo tweeting, “Happy New Year to every Iranian in the streets. Also, to every Mossad agent walking beside them.”

In a Farsi-language social media post, Mossad encouraged rioters to “Go out together into the streets. The time has come,” adding that Mossad agents are with the rioters “not only from a distance and verbally. We are with [them] in the field.”
