Venezuela president abduction
The Venezuelan Supreme Court has appointed Vice President Delcy Rodriguez as acting president. This comes after President Nicolas Maduro was abducted in a US attack on the South American country. Rodriguez earlier strongly condemned the US move, stressing that Maduro is the only president of Venezuela. She demanded the immediate release of Maduro and his wife. The Venezuelan acting president noted that her people are ready to defend their country with all their strength, and that Venezuela will not be a colony of any country. She said the people Venezuelans have resisted all aggressions, and are ready to face every challenge. Meanwhile, the US says Maduro has arrived at a detention center in New York after his abduction from Caracas on Saturday.
Slamming US abduction of Maduro
Protesters across the United States have rallied against the US kidnapping of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife during a military operation. In Washington, demonstrators gathered outside the White House, chanting slogans such as “Hands off Venezuela.” Protesters accused the US government of targeting Venezuela to seize its oil resources. Some demonstrators said the operation is being used to divert attention from domestic issues, including economic hardship and President Donald Trump’s involvement in the Epstein files. In New York City, hundreds of people also gathered in Times Square on Saturday, condemning US intervention in Venezuela and calling for respect for the country’s sovereignty. A similar protest has been held in the German capital against the US moves.
DPRK ballistic missile
The Democratic People's Republic of Korea has reportedly launched multiple ballistic missiles ahead of the South Korean president visit to China for talks on a range of issues including Pyongyang’s nuclear program. South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff has, in a statement, said it detected several ballistic missile launches from the DPRK’s capital region toward the sea. It said the missiles flew about 9-hundred kilometers. Japanese Defense Minister also confirmed the missile launches, calling it a threat to regional peace and security. In recent weeks, DPRK’s leader Kim Jung Un has visited a series of weapons factories and a nuclear-powered submarine and has overseen missile tests. Pyongyang says such military activities amount to a rehearsal for invasion.
