UN alarm on Gaza lifeline
Top UN humanitarian agencies working in the Gaza Strip have warned in a statement that restrictions imposed by the Israeli regime are severely hindering their efforts in the war-torn territory. The statement has been issued by FAO, WHO, WFP and UNICEF. They said the import restrictions and access constraints have particularly affected food security, health, water, hygiene, agriculture and livelihood recovery. They also warned that hundreds of thousands of Gazans could quickly slide back into famine if enough aid is not allowed in. Israel has partly eased restrictions on the entry of aid since the October ceasefire, but the UN says delivery is still limited and inconsistent. The international body says more than 730,000people have been displaced in Gaza. Many of them are living in makeshift shelters and are heavily reliant on humanitarian aid.
