BRICS Summit
Iran’s president says BRICS policies will prevent the United States from achieving its colonial goals. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian was addressing reporters at Iran’s Embassy in New Delhi following the conclusion of the 18th BRICS Summit. He said the particiapnts agreed that the global unipolar system must be dismantled and replaced by a multipolar, multilateral order. Pezeshkian also highlighted key points in the summit’s final declaration, including the condemnation of attacks on civilian centers and infrastructure. Referring to discussions among the leaders, Pezeshkian said expanding trade through the use of national currencies was one of the major themes of the summit. He added that many BRICS leaders emphasized the need to move toward greater independence from the Western financial system. He further noted that mechanisms are being examined to enable countries to conduct transactions using regional currencies.
Yemen army advances
Yemeni armed forces are maintaining full control over the strategic city of Mokha, following a large-scale military operation that saw them take control of the entire Red Sea coastline. The armed forces have emphasized that they will continue their operations in the region until the Yemeni people’s rights are restored.
Trump controversy
The US president has once again surprised his British allies by veering off the official US policy on the issue of Northern Ireland, calling for its reunification with Ireland. The comment by Donald Trump alongside the Irish premier plunges the U-S into the hugely controversial issue of Northern Ireland that has caused decades of deadly clashes between British security forces and local republicans. The so-called troubles were settled by the 1998 Good Friday Agreement. It required holding a referendum if it appears likely that a majority supports reunification with Ireland. On Saturday, the office of the British premier pushed back against Trump’s comment, saying there is insufficient public support in Northern Ireland for a referendum to be held.
