Iran confiscates 2 trespassing Omani vessels, 100kg of eels in Jask waters

Iranian maritime guards seize two Omani vessels in the Persian Gulf on charges of illegal fishing.

Iran's fisheries guards have confiscated two trespassing Omani vessels, seizing 100kg of eels caught illegally by suspected outlaw fishermen in Jask territorial waters.

The two Omani Sambuk vessels were identified and seized during joint patrols by Iranian maritime forces and Fisheries guards patrolling in Jask territorial waters, 10 nautical miles from the Kooh Mobarak, 30 nautical miles west of Bandar-e Jask.

Six suspects with foreign nationality were arrested and about 100kg of illegally caught eels were discovered and seized, Colonel Masoud Ehsani said on Sunday, citing sources in Homuzgan Fisheries' Public Relations office.

Also, in the past days, an 85-horsepower banned trawling vessel was identified and confiscated in waters around 2 nautical miles from Gazi port west of Jask.

The head of Fisheries Guard Units in Hormozgan province said Iranian maritime forces were able to seize the trespassing vessel and arrest the two suspects on board, one of whom was from Bangladesh.

On board the vessel, Iranian forces discovered banned trawling equipment and about 20kg of different kinds of fish, all of which had been caught using the illegal equipment confiscated from the vessel.

Colonel Ehsani pointed out that Iranian forces will continue to conduct perpetual round-the-clock patrols in the country's territorial waters.

He said Iranian forces in the Persian Gulf will continue to combat illegal fishing by foreign vessels in its territorial waters, warning that there would be no leniency towards the offenders.
