Israel ‘importing war of extermination’ from Gaza to West Bank: Knesset member

An Israeli member of Knesset (Parliament) has said Tel Aviv was “importing” its “war of extermination” from the Gaza Strip to the occupied West Bank.

Ofer Cassif, a member of the Hadash political coalition in Knesset, made the remarks on Thursday after Israeli forces killed two Palestinian men in the West Bank city of Jenin during a prolonged raid.

The deaths were confirmed by the Palestinian Authority, which identified the victims as 26-year-old Al‑Muntasir Mahmoud Qassem Abdullah and 37-year-old Youssef Ali Youssef Asasa, and condemned the shooting as “a full-fledged war crime and a flagrant violation of all international laws, conventions, norms, and humanitarian values.”

Video circulated online showed both men emerging from the structure with hands raised before being shot. Footage later captured one of the victims lying motionless on the ground following several audible bursts of gunfire.

In a joint statement, the Israeli military spokesperson and the Israeli police said troops opened fire after a “surrender procedure” aimed at apprehending the men, whom Tel Aviv had accused of violence.

Cassif called the incident “cold-blooded murder,” and lamented that “the world continues its silence,” urging global actors to confront what he described as a widening campaign of military impunity.

Ahmad Tibi, another MK, echoed the war-crime characterization on social media, writing, “This is what occupation looks like. And this is what a war crime looks like.”

Israeli human rights group B’Tselem’s international director, Sarit Michaeli, also described the shooting as “a cold-blooded execution.”

Extremist Israeli minister Itamar Ben‑Gvir, however, publicly praised the operation, writing, “fighters (Israeli forces) acted exactly as expected — terrorists must die!”

The developments came amid the Israeli regime’s daily deadly violations of a supposedly standing ceasefire deal that is expected to end Tel Aviv’s war of genocide in Gaza, which began in October 2023.

Hundreds have been killed during the violations since the deal’s implementation started in early October.

The war had already claimed the lives of tens of thousands of Palestinians, mostly women and children.
