A senior Iranian diplomat has warned of the dangers posed by unilateral actions taken by the United States and Israel to international law and the world order.
In an X post on Saturday, Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs, Kazem Gharibabadi, said that he had raised the issue of US and Israeli crimes during a meeting in Tehran with UN Independent Expert on the Promotion of a Democratic and Equitable International Order, George Katrougalos.
“Our discussion focused on how unilateral and arbitrary actions—such as aggression and crimes committed by the US and Israeli regime—erode international law and destabilize the global system, pushing the world further away from justice, equality, and peace,” Gharibabadi said.
He also called on the UN expert, who has a distinguished diplomatic and academic background, to play a vital role in strengthening international law.
Today I met with Mr. George Katrougalos, the UN Independent Expert on promoting a democratic and equitable international order, who is in Iran to attend the “International Law Under Assault: Aggression and Self-Defense” conference.

On October 7, 2023, Israel unleashed a US-backed genocidal war on the Gaza Strip. Over the past two years, the Israeli military has killed at least 69,000 Palestinians, the majority of them women and children.
Failing to achieve its declared war objectives — including the elimination of Hamas — the Israeli regime reached a ceasefire agreement with the Gaza-based resistance group on October 10. Nevertheless, it has repeatedly violated the deal, continuing to carry out attacks and kill civilians on a daily basis.
In the course of its Gaza offensive, the Tel Aviv regime also waged acts of aggression against Lebanon, Qatar, Yemen, Syria, and Iran.
Israel launched the unprovoked aggression against Iran on June 13, triggering a 12-day war that killed at least 1,064 people in the country, including military commanders, nuclear scientists, and civilians.
The United States also entered the war by bombing three Iranian nuclear sites. In response, the Iranian Armed Forces targeted strategic sites across the occupied territories as well as the Al-Udeid air base in Qatar, the largest American military base in West Asia.
On June 24, Iran, through its successful retaliatory operations against both the Israeli regime and the US, managed to impose a halt to the terrorist assault.
