'Healthcare Workers Against Censorship' accuses UK minister of politicizing medicine

Across Britain, NHS workers are speaking out, not just about the collapse of their health system, but about the moral collapse of government.

Instead of listening, ministers are tightening the screws on those who do voice their opinion on the dire circumstances in Gaza.

We do respect the sanctity of life.

We feel strongly opposed to the genocide, so it's only natural that we oppose it with our speech, the least we can do, and that they are policing our speech is really the long arm of Zionism.

So it's in Gaza, they're feeling it with their bodies.

The IDF (IOF) is targeting the people in Gaza, the Palestinians in Gaza, but over here, the Zionism is just policing the free speech of people who are opposing the genocide.

Ellis Kriesels, NHS Consultant Pediatrician

British Health Secretary Wes Streeting has proposed new laws to bypass medical regulators and punish doctors accused of political bias; a move widely condemned as an attempt to silence healthcare professionals critical of Israel's actions.

I think it's really important that we come out here and defend our health workers and our doctors against the repression that they're obviously receiving from the state, from Wes Streeting, from the Jewish Lobbies, and I think this is really a question of our sovereignty.

It's also a question of our free speech. And this is an issue that everyone in this country needs to understand and stand up and speak out.

El McNamara, NHS Health Worker

His colleague, Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood, has meanwhile defended sweeping new powers to curb pro-Palestinian protests, branding large demonstrations as intimidating, un-British, and, bringing negative cumulative impact on local communities.

The police have threatened to seize the equipment of protest organizers if they do not move. This is not surprising, considering the context of repression and censorship by Keir Starmer’s government.

This protest is important because actually it is demonstrating that the UK is occupied. We're occupied by the Zionist lobby.

Health care workers are being attacked because they're anti-genocidal; we are opposing the mass slaughter.

Wes Streeting has clamped down on any speech, even, by health care workers like myself, and it demonstrates the fact that he's a paid agent of Israel.

He's taken funding from the lobby, and he is effectively trying to clamp down on our speech, and he's trying to change legislation for their benefit, i.e., he's turning the General Medical Council, which has the power to investigator us, (into) a judge, a jury and an executioner, so that we can get suspended even before we're found guilty.

Reihana Ali, Consultant Neurologist

Together these policies reveal a new pattern; a government more focused on suppressing dissent than confronting the complicity of its own foreign policy.

For many in Britain's hospitals, this isn't just repression, it is moral hypocrisy carried out under the banner of 'Public Order' and 'Professional Conduct'.
