Iran and Pakistan have underlined the need for developing an active diplomatic approach aimed at promoting regional peace and stability.
Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and his Pakistani counterpart, Mohammad Ishaq Dar, made the remarks in a Saturday telephone conversation, during which they discussed significant regional and international developments.
The top diplomats emphasized the importance of developing active diplomacy, exchanging information, and boosting coordination to promote peace and stability in the region.
They also called for strengthening bilateral and multilateral cooperation, as well as bolstering regional interactions and using all capacities in the fields of trade and transit.
The two sides further welcomed the cessation of Israel’s two-year-long genocide in the Gaza Strip and exchanged views on future joint efforts.
Following three days of indirect negotiations in Egypt, Israel and the Palestinian Hamas resistance group agreed to a Gaza ceasefire plan proposed by US President Donald Trump.
Under the first phase of the deal, which came into effect at noon local time on Friday, Hamas would free 48 captives — dead and alive — in exchange for the release of roughly 2,000 Palestinian abductees being held in Israeli jails.
The agreement also includes the flow of humanitarian aid into Gaza and the withdrawal of the occupation forces to an agreed line in the besieged territory.
As the Gaza war stopped, fierce clashes erupted between Pakistani and Afghan forces along the two countries' tense border on Saturday night, killing multiple soldiers.
Iran urges Afghanistan, Pakistan to exercise restraint
On Saturday, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei expressed concerns about the recent flare-up of violence between Afghanistan and Pakistan, stressing the necessity of mutual respect for both countries’ territorial integrity and national sovereignty.
He also called for restraint and the immediate initiation of dialogue between the two sides to de-escalate tensions and resolve disputes.
The Islamic Republic attaches great importance to maintaining peace and stability in its surrounding region and stands ready to offer any help to reduce tensions between the two neighboring Muslim countries, Baghaei added.
