Hamas censures Ben-Gvir’s provocation at Al-Aqsa Mosque

Itamar Ben-Gvir (R) leads a provocative march and mass incursion by Israeli settlers into the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in occupied East al-Quds on October 8, 2025.

The Palestinian resistance movement Hamas says al-Quds and the Al-Aqsa Mosque remain a red line for the movement, and repeated incursions cannot alter the reality of Al-Aqsa as an exclusively Islamic holy site.

In a statement issued Wednesday, Hamas condemned Israeli minister Itamar Ben-Gvir for leading groups of settlers in a provocative tour of the mosque compound.

A video showed him praying at the site, in defiance of a decades-old understanding that permits only Muslim worship there.

During his visit, Ben-Gvir called on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to pursue a “complete victory” over Hamas in Gaza.

Hamas said in its statement that this act reflects the extremist mindset driving the Israeli regime, which deliberately violates the sanctity of Al-Aqsa and offends Muslims worldwide.

The movement said the provocation coincided with the 35th anniversary of the first Al-Aqsa massacre on October 8, 1990.

According to Hamas, the latest incursion was not an isolated act but a calculated attempt to impose temporal and spatial division at the holy site and to entrench Israeli control over the Al-Aqsa compound as part of a broader Judaization project targeting al-Quds’ Arab and Islamic identity.

Hamas urged the Palestinians in al-Quds, the occupied West Bank, and the 1948-occupied territories to maintain a constant and visible presence at Al-Aqsa to protect it from such schemes.

The group also appealed to Arab and Islamic nations, as well as international organizations, to shoulder their political, legal, and moral responsibilities in halting the ongoing Israeli aggression.

Hamas said the Palestinians will continue to defend their rights and sacred places through all legitimate means.

Jordan and Saudi Arabia also condemned the provocation at the Al-Aqsa Mosque.

Jordan denounced the act as “a blatant violation of international and humanitarian law, as well as an act of escalation and provocation.”

The Saudi Foreign Ministry, likewise, reaffirmed its “categorical rejection of any tampering with the historical and legal status of Al-Quds” and called for the Israeli authorities to be held accountable for their “serious violations against Islamic holy sites.”
