The UK’s Jewish leaders have hit out at the Israelis for inviting an infamous British Islamophobic “thug” to rally support for Tel Aviv.
Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, better known as Tommy Robinson, is a British far-right activist and one of the UK’s most prominent anti-Islam campaigners with a history of criminal convictions.
He is also identified as one of the main British state actors responsible for fomenting Islamophobic riots instigated by the secret Intelligence services for the UK’s political advantage.
The Israeli regime’s so-called minister of diaspora affairs, Amichai Chikli, has invited Robinson, whom he called the “courageous leader” of the Uniting the Kingdom movement, to visit the occupied Palestinian territories to rally support for Tel Aviv.
Top Jewish organizations in the UK, including the Board of Deputies and the Jewish Leadership Council, strongly condemned the invitation, describing Robinson as a “thug” who “represents the very worst of Britain.”
The leading organization censured Chikli for ignoring the views of the vast majority of British Jews and undermining efforts to combat extremism and foster community cohesion.
Sayeeda Warsi, a former Tory cabinet minister, and think tank director Sunder Katwala also slammed Chikli for the invitation.
They cited Robinson’s long criminal record, his polemic behavior and contentious rhetoric as reasons to cancel him.
Meanwhile, Robinson said he’d accepted the invitation.
Robinson planned to visit Al-Quds, the West Bank, and other historical and holy biblical sites in the occupied territories, including the Gaza Strip, after he is done with his trials and court hearings.
