Insider's view of the country: 30 Tir Street

At the heart of the Iranian capital Tehran, there's a street with a magical and a special atmosphere, which is a symbol of the unique symbiosis of religions.

Zoroastrianism was founded by the prophet Zoroaster, also called Zarathustra, nearly 4,000 years ago in Persia or modern-day Iran. Zoroastrianism gradually gained wider acceptance, becoming the religion of the Achaemenian Empire founded by Cyrus the Great.

And a few hundred years after that, the Sasanian kings established Zoroastrianism as the state religion of Iran. This was the golden age of Zoroastrianism, with as many as 30 million people practicing the faith.

The episode explores the historic street of 30 Tir in Tehran, home to one of the largest and most esteemed Zoroastrian fire temples in Iran. The establishment of this fire temple in the late Qajar era was a turning point in the religious history of Iranian Zoroastrians, and it remains a venue for numerous religious ceremonies today.
