Beyond retaliation: Iran targets Israel’s air defense backbone, says pundit
UK-based journalist and researcher Sulaiman Ahmed says Iran’s latest retaliation is part of a calculated campaign to systematically degrade the regional defense network underpinning the Israeli regime’s early warning and missile interception capabilities by targeting radar sites and other military assets across the region.
The aim, according to this view, is to erode the regime’s defensive umbrella and tilt the military balance in Iran’s favor. It also signals confidence in Tehran’s conventional strike capability, while sustaining pressure on its adversaries and limiting their ability to respond effectively.
Ahmed further noted that the campaign is meant not only to inflict military costs but also to strengthen Iran’s deterrence by showing that a prolonged conflict may increasingly favor Tehran. He says that this dynamic has shaped Tel Aviv's strategic calculations, encouraging restraint and reinforcing Iran’s position that any future talks would need to honor previous commitments and possibly include broader concessions.
