Israeli media outlets are reporting that a regime soldier from the Nahal Brigade has been killed after being shot by a Palestinian sniper in the Gaza Strip.

The outlets characterized the incident as a “serious security event,” noting that it occurred during a fierce exchange of gunfire on Wednesday evening, yielding outcomes that were fairly challenging for the Israeli occupation forces.

According to an initial probe carried out by the Israeli military, the soldier was manning a guard post at an army encampment when he came under sniper fire.

The slain troop is identified as Staff Sergeant Chalachew Shimon Demalash, 21, of the Nahal Brigade’s 932nd Battalion. He hailed from the city of Beersheba in the Negev desert of the southern Israeli-occupied territories.

Earlier in the day, the Qassam Brigades, the military wing of the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas, declared that its fighters had struck two Israeli Merkava battle tanks using Yassin-105 anti-armor missiles in the Tel al-Hawa neighborhood of southern Gaza City.

The resistance movement reported that the attacks resulted in casualties among the tank’s crews.

The development came a day after Israeli occupation forces confirmed the fatalities of two soldiers in Gaza, along with another who died from critical injuries incurred during a Hamas ambush in Gaza City.

The recent incident highlights the ongoing severity of clashes throughout the strip, as Palestinian resistance factions intensify their assaults on Israeli troops, in spite of months of extensive aerial bombardment and ground offensives.

The Israeli military has pursued a brutal offensive on Gaza since October 7, 2023, dismissing international appeals for a ceasefire, resulting in the deaths of at least 65,419 Palestinians, predominantly women and children.

The unrelenting airstrikes have ravaged the region and caused significant food shortages.
