Pezeshkian UNGA speech

At the UN General Assembly, Iran’s president, Masoud Pezeshkian, made his speech with a sharp condemnation of Israel. President Pezeshkian saved his strongest criticism for Israel and its allies, saying they try to impose their will. He called Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu a criminal and labeled US-Israeli war on Iran as a grave betrayal of diplomacy. Pezeshkian also warned that the u.s.-Israeli genocide in gaza would affect all countries if it continues. On the issue of Iran's nuclear program, Pezeshkian stated that the country does not seek a nuclear bomb, citing a religious fatwa as proof. The Iranian president also met with his French counterpart on the sidelines of the UN general Assembly. Pezeshkian and Macron discussed Iran-IAEA ties and the activation of the 2015 nuclear deal’s snapback mechanism.

US-Israeli Gaza genocide

Israeli forces continue to wreak havoc on Gaza, killing more civilians and pounding various areas across the besieged territory with air and artillery strikes. Nearly one-hundred Palestinians were killed in Wednesday attacks. One of the deadliest strikes hit a house in the Al-Zawaida area, in central Gaza, killing nearly a dozen civilians, and injuring many others. An earlier strike on the market area of the Al-Nuseirat refugee camp, in central Gaza, also killed 13 civilians, and injured nearly 20 others. Medical sources said most of the bodies received by hospitals were blown to pieces. Five more citizens were also killed in separate Israeli air raids in central and southern Gaza. According to medical sources, five starving Palestinians were killed, and more than 20 others injured while attempting to receive humanitarian aid. The new fatalities increase the number of aid seekers killed so far by Israeli forces to more than 2500. The death toll from the Israeli genocide in Gaza since October 2023 has surpassed 65,400; with more than 167,100 others injured.

Gaza Sumud flotilla

More countries are deploying their naval vessels to help the Gaza-bound aid flotilla, known as the Global Sumud Flotilla, sail safely toward the besieged Palestinian territory. Following suit with Italy, Spain has become the second country to send a military warship to protect the humanitarian mission. Sanchez said Spain and fourteen other countries have informed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that their citizens on board the flotilla are under political and diplomatic protection. He added that if the flotilla encounters difficulties, those on board could be rescued by the Spanish naval vessel. Spain’s move came after Italy announced it was sending a navy vessel to provide full assistance to the flotilla. Italy’s decision represented the first direct intervention by European governments to protect humanitarian ships attempting to break Israel’s blockade of Gaza. It followed overnight drone attacks on the aid-carrying vessels off the coast of Greece. The Global Sumud Flotilla is using about 50 civilian boats with citizens from forty-five countries on board
