Iran-Armenia relationship

Iran and Armenia have agreed to elevate bilateral relations to the level of strategic partnership. The decision was announced during an official visit of the Iranian President to Yerevan. The two sides signed a joint statement and 10 cooperation agreements spanning economic, cultural, and political sectors. Masoud Pezeshkian expressed Tehran’s concerns over recent regional developments, while reaffirming Iran’s commitment to peace and stability in the Caucasus region. The Armenian Prime Minister for his part announced plans to open a second bridge over the Aras River at the shared border, citing growing trade between the two nations. The current trade volume of one billion dollars is planned to reach 3 billion dollars. Meanwhile, Iran’s Foreign Minister announced the sides have agreed to finalize a comprehensive strategic cooperation document soon. Abbas Araghchi also cited the assurance Armenia’s given that no threat to Iran would ever arise from its territory. This, in reference to a US-brokered corridor deal between Azerbaijan and Armenia that would run close to Iran's border.

Genocide in Gaza 

Israel's genocidal war on Gaza has killed some 60 more Palestinians, including aid seekers. Five people were killed and several injured when Israeli forces shelled a tent housing the displaced near Deir al-Balah. In Khan Yunis, Eight Palestinians, including two children, lost their lives in an attack on the Al-Mawasi area. A Palestinian journalist, along with his child, was killed in an artillery strike in Gaza City. Three more people died from starvation in the past day that brings to over 266 the number of famine-related deaths. The death toll of the US-Israeli genocide has topped 62,000, with more than 156,500 injured.

Israel Gaza brutal campaign 

The chief of the UN agency for Palestinian refugees, UNRWA, says around 360 of the agency’s staff have been killed in Gaza since the Israeli war began on the besieged territory. In a post on his X social media account, Philippe Lazzarini added that several of those fatalities took place while the personnel were on the job. He also said around 50 of UNRWA workers have been arrested or detained, with some suffering torture while apprehended. Lazzarini made the remarks on the World Human Day that falls on August the 19th.
