Tehran backs regional security
Iran's parliament speaker, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, has hailed China's approach to regional security in West Asia. Ghalibaf who also serves as Iran's special representative for China affairs, said China's emphasis on fostering common security reflects a principle that Iran has long championed. He has pointed out that true stability can only come through a new security architecture by the regional countries and said that Iran stands ready to play its part.
Pentagon probes war leaks
At least 50 members of the US military’s Joint Staff have been subjected to polygraph tests over leaks of sensitive information on weapons stockpiles. The tests are part of a sweeping leak probe after media reports raised concerns over declining US munitions stocks amid the war with Iran. Reports say that polygraph tests are a routine part of the process for many senior military officials, but it is highly unusual for such a large number of people to be tested in a single case. The Pentagon spokesman has said that the department does not comment on internal personnel or investigative matters but takes all leaks of classified national security information seriously. Over the past few weeks, a number of American media outlets have reported shortages of critical weapons, including Patriot interceptors. Military specialists say it could take years to replenish some of those systems.
Nepal-Tibet flooding
The death toll from the flooding along the Nepal-Tibet border has risen above 1,300. The number of fatalities goes up, as thousands of people are still missing amid search-and-rescue operations in the affected areas. On Friday, two hydropower workers were miraculously pulled alive from a tunnel buried under debris in Nepal after nine days. The natural disaster happened August 26th after a glacier collapsed near the Nepal-Tibet border, causing catastrophic flash flooding.
