Georges Abdallah, a Lebanese pro-Palestine activist and the longest-held prisoner in Europe, has arrived in his home country after over 40 years behind bars in France.
Massive crowds gathered at Beirut International Airport to greet him. So did members of the Lebanese parliament and members of Hezbollah. His lawyers considered his incarceration to be illegal, something many experts believe is a price he paid for his support for the Palestinian cause.
The French judiciary ordered Abdallah’s release on July 17, a decision reportedly delayed decades as a result of constant political pressure by the US and the Israeli regime.
