Killing Gaza aid seekers

Israel massacres more Palestinians in the Gaza strip, with aid seekers continue to be targeted by the regime's strikes. Nearly 100 people have been killed by Israeli forces since dawn. 74 of them were killed near an aid distribution center north of Gaza. In central Gaza, the Israeli military has dropped leaflets over residents in parts of Deir al-Balah, ordering them to leave the area. Meanwhile, the UN agency for Palestinian refugees warns that Israel is starving civilians, with multiple deaths reported in the past 24 hours due to Israel's continued blockade on the entry of food and essential supplies. The US-Israeli genocide, which began in October 2023, has so far killed nearly 58,900 Palestinians.

UK Gaza legal action

The UK government is facing a legal challenge over its controversial decision not to medically evacuate critically ill children from Gaza. The legal action was initiated by a law firm against the Foreign Office and Home Office on behalf of three critically ill children in Gaza. It argues that ministers failed to properly consider the lack of treatment options in the war-torn territory before denying the evacuations. It also argues that Britain’s current approach starkly contrasts with its history of humanitarian evacuations, including during the Bosnia conflict and most recently in Ukraine. This action comes as according to the Gaza health ministry, since October 2023 more than 17,000 Palestinians killed by Israeli forces in the territory were children.

Syria violence

Moving now to Syria, where cautious calm has settled over the southern province of Sweida, after days of fierce tribal clashes in the Druze-minority region that left over 1000 people dead. Reports say fighting stopped on Sunday after Syria's HTS-led regime declared the withdrawal of Bedouins from the flashpoint city. That, following a ceasefire announced on Saturday. Syrian regime forces have been deployed to the village of Al-Mazra’a near Sweida to block the entry of armed Bedouin tribesmen. Long-running tensions between Druze and Bedouin tribes erupted into clashes a week ago, after the abduction of a Druze merchant. Damascus then sent troops to quell the fighting. They, however, were hit by Israeli strikes before withdrawing under a truce agreed on Wednesday.
