US-Israeli genocide in Gaza
It’s another bloody night for Palestinians in Gaza, as the Israeli military continues to pound the blockaded territory with indiscriminate air and artillery strikes. In one of the latest strikes, at least three children were killed and 20 others injured after the Israeli military bombed tents of displaced Palestinians in the Al-Mawasi refugee camp, near Khan Yunis, in southern Gaza. A separate strike on Khan Yunis, killed at least five people there. In central Gaza, fatalities were reported after an Israeli drone strike targeted a group of Palestinian civilians in a market near the Nuseirat refugee camp. Intense Israeli shelling also targeted several areas across Gaza, leaving an unknown number of Palestinians dead and injured. The Gaza genocide, which began in October 2023, has so far claimed the lives of more than 57,600 Palestinians, leaving over 137,400 others injured.
US sanctions UN rapporteur
The United States' decision to impose sanctions on the UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the occupied Palestine has drawn strong condemnations from around the world. In the latest case, the Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor has condemned US sanctions against Francesca Albanese as a serious deviation from the core principles of international law and human rights. It said the move reflects the official US stance on any independent effort to expose the crimes of genocide and systematic violations committed by Israel in Gaza. The monitor added that Washington's decision amounts to a direct attack on the UN and its mechanisms, and threatens the independence of special rapporteurs. The monitor expressed its full support for Albanese and her principled positions, which are rooted in international law. It also called on the international community not to remain silent on US sanctions, and take immediate steps to safeguard the integrity of the global human rights system.
Yemen supporting Palestine
Yemen’s armed forces have released footage of the targeting and sinking of the ship, Eternity C, which was en route to Eilat port in the occupied Palestinian territories. The Liberian-flagged cargo ship sank in the Red Sea on Wednesday after being targeted by the Yemeni army's naval force for violating the ban on navigation of Israel-related vessels. Yemen's attack on Eternity-C came one day after the country's army claimed responsibility for attacking another cargo ship, the Magic Seas, in the Red Sea, causing it to sink. The spokesman for Yemen's armed forces said following the operation, a group of special forces rescued a number of the ship's crew, provided them with medical care, and transported them to a safe location. Yahya Saree said the attack on the ship was carried out with an unmanned boat and several missiles, resulting in complete sinking of the Greek-owned vessel.
