Slamming West support for Israel
Iran’s foreign minister says the country is the biggest victim of chemical weapons in contemporary history, and a staunch advocate for a world free of weapons of mass destruction. Abbas Araghchi said Iran, which pioneered the idea of a nuclear weapons-free Middle East, has consistently been at the forefront of efforts to combat such weapons. Araghchi’s remarks came as Iran marks the National Day of Combat against Chemical and Biological Weapons. The occasion commemorates the 38th anniversary of the chemical attack on the northwestern Iranian city of Sardasht by former Iraqi dictator, Saddam Hussein. He said credible evidence shows certain Western governments, particularly the US, the UK, and Germany, assisted Saddam in carrying out the attack by providing him with chemical materials, technology, and equipment. Araghchi stressed that the same Western states are now backing Israel’s aggression against Iran, which has claimed the lives of many civilians and scientists, as well as civil and military officials. He also slammed Western states for remaining silent on Israel’s attacks on Iran’s industries, which can lead to a humanitarian and environmental catastrophe in the region.
Condemning Trump remarks
Iran has strongly condemned US President Donald Trump’s recent insulting and disrespectful remarks regarding the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, and the Iranian nation. The Iranian Foreign Ministry described Trump’s remarks as offensive and against moral and diplomatic norms. It said Trump’s comments also amounted to a blatant violation of common global values, and the principles of the UN Charter. The ministry said such insulting remarks were an affront to an age-old nation and civilization, while hurting the sentiments of hundreds of millions of Muslims in the region and the world. It stressed that using such insulting and bullying language against Iran and religious figures that are revered by Iranians and all Muslims of the world, will only deepen public hatred towards America’s short-sighted policies. The ministry advised US officials to give up such insulting rhetoric and instead, take responsibility for their government’s violations of international law, particularly its unlawful attacks on Iran’s peaceful nuclear facilities.
US-Israeli Gaza genocide
Sunday has been another deadly day for Palestinians across Gaza, as the Israeli military kept pounding the blockaded territory with indiscriminate air and artillery strikes. In one of the latest strikes, at least five Palestinians were killed, and several others injured after Israeli warplanes bombed the al-Shati refugee camp, west of Gaza City. Fatalities were reported after Israeli jets struck a school sheltering displaced Palestinians in Gaza City’s al-Zaytoun neighborhood. To the north, a similar strike at a school housing displaced Palestinians in Jabalia left several fatalities. Also, in Jabalia, nearly 20 people were killed in the Israeli bombing of two homes. The Israeli military has issued mass evacuation orders, demanding residents of large parts of Gaza City and northern Gaza leave their homes immediately and move south. The Israeli genocide in Gaza, which began in October 2023, has so far killed some 56,500 people, leaving over 133,400 others injured.
