US-Israeli Gaza genocide
More Palestinian civilians are slaughtered in Gaza, as the Israeli military keeps pounding the blockaded territory with indiscriminate air and artillery strikes. An airstrike targeted a residential building in Khan Yunis, southern Gaza, killing several Palestinians and injuring many others. Earlier, at least half a dozen Palestinians lost their lives after Israeli warplanes bombed a vehicle in the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza. A separate strike on the Nuseirat camp, claimed the lives of at least nine people. Fatalities were also reported following Israeli artillery shelling of several areas across Gaza. The attacks come as lack of food is separately taking its toll on the Gaza population with a four-month-old infant dying of malnutrition. The latest deaths, push the death toll from the US-Israeli genocide since October 2023 to more than 52,500. Over 118,600 others have been injured.
Plight of children in Gaza
A harrowing report has been published by medical officials in Gaza, detailing how children across the blockaded territory are falling victim to the US-Israeli genocide. The Director-General of Field Hospitals in Gaza says more than 16-thousand children have been killed across the territory since the beginning of Israel’s genocidal war in October 2023. The figure means one child has died every 40 minutes over the past 17 months. The official said over nine-hundred Palestinian children were killed before reaching their first birthday. He said there have been documented cases of children being killed while attempting to collect food aid from charitable soup kitchens, directly targeted by Israeli airstrikes. He said Israel’s blockade and closure of Gaza’s crossings for over two months have exacerbated the health crisis. Many primary healthcare centers are shut down either due to direct bombardment or because they are located within evacuation zones. The situation has deprived thousands of children and pregnant women of essential medical care.
Rejecting anti-Iran threats
Iran has categorically condemned the latest threats posed by the US and Israel over Yemen’s missile strike on the occupied territories, vowing to defend its sovereignty against any threat or use of force. Iran's permanent UN ambassador made the comment in a letter to the UN chief and the Security Council’s president. Amir Saeid Iravani said any act of military adventurism by the US or its proxy, the Israeli regime, will be met with a swift, proportionate, and lawful response. He added that the US and Israel will bear full responsibility for all consequences of any such unlawful and reckless aggression. Iravani said such inflammatory and belligerent rhetoric against a UN member state, constitutes a clear and grave violation of the basic principles of international law. He also slammed the US and its allies for militarizing the Red Sea and launching unlawful military operations against Yemen. Following Yemen’s missile strike on Israel’s Ben Gurion airport, the regime’s prime minister and US secretary of defense attributed the attack to Iran, threatening that Tehran will face consequences.
