Iran-US indirect talks

The third round of indirect talks between Iran and the United States has concluded in the Omani capital, Muscat. Iranian and American delegations have now returned to their capitals for further consultations. Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei says the two sides exchanged views on building trust around the country’s peaceful nuclear program and the effective removal of sanctions. For the first time, the talks were also held at the expert level. The technical talks preceded high-level negotiations, which were led by Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff. Omani Foreign Minister Badr al-Busaidi who mediated the talks announced that the next round of indirect Tehran-Washington talks would be held next Saturday in Muscat. Following the talks, Iran’s foreign minister, Abbas Araghchi told reporters that the third round of negotiations was held in a much more serious atmosphere than before.

Iran port explosion

At least five people have been killed and over 700 injured after a massive explosion rocked a key port in southern Iran. The explosion occurred at the Shahid Rajaee port dock in the city of Bandar Abbas. The director general of Hormozgan’s crisis management department said the cause of the huge explosion has not been determined yet. Following the incident, all port operations were suspended as security and emergency teams worked to secure the area. Authorities immediately declared a state of emergency at hospitals across Bandar Abbas in preparation for the arrival of mass casualties. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has extended his sympathies to the families of the victims and dispatched Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni to oversee an investigation.

US-Israeli genocide in Gaza

More Palestinian civilians are slaughtered in Gaza as the Israeli military presses ahead with its air and artillery strikes against the blockaded territory. In one of the latest attacks, at least two people were killed and several others injured in a drone strike in Beit Lahia, northern Gaza. Israeli artillery shelling also targeted several areas across Gaza, leaving an unknown number of Palestinian dead and injured. Earlier on Saturday, an Israel airstrike targeted Gaza’s al-Sabra neighborhood, killing at least 10 Palestinians. Civil defense officials say some 20 people are still under the rubble of a building destroyed in the attack. According to Gaza’s health ministry, nearly 51,500 Palestinians have been killed since the regime began its genocidal war on the coastal sliver in October 2023. Over 117,000 others have been injured.
