Gaza's looming famine

A critical humanitarian crisis is unfolding in the Gaza strip as the United Nations World Food Program says it has completely depleted its food stocks for families in the besieged territory. The WFP says it has delivered its last remaining food supplies to hot meal kitchens across Gaza. The UN agency said despite reaching only half of the Gaza population and meeting just 25 percent of their daily needs, these kitchens have been providing a vital lifeline to Palestinians. The humanitarian organization also added that all Gaza bakeries it supported have closed since late March due to a lack of flour. It further cautioned about a severe shortage of safe water and fuel for cooking, saying many Palestinian families are now forced to scavenge for materials to burn just to prepare a meal. The UN agency warned this is the longest closure of aid entries Palestinians have ever faced, exacerbating their already fragile food system.

Yemen's protests

Thousands of Yemenis have once again held nationwide rallies to reaffirm their solidarity with Palestinians and slam the US aggression against their country. Protesters carried the Yemeni and Palestinian flags and chanted slogans condemning Israeli crimes in Gaza. Yemenis also denounced the deadly US airstrikes on their country. They expressed support for the retaliatory operations by Yemeni armed forces, targeting the occupied territories, Israel-bound vessels and US warships. Yemenis have been holding pro-Palestine rallies almost every Friday since the beginning of the genocidal war on Gaza in October 2023. Yemenis say they will remain steadfast in their support for Palestine despite the ongoing US aggression against their country.

Iran-US indirect talks

Iran says its priority in the indirect talks with the US is the termination of unlawful and inhumane sanctions in an objective and speedy manner. In a social media post, Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman said the country is resolved to secure its legitimate and lawful right to use nuclear energy for peaceful purposes. Esmaeil Baghaei, however, added that Tehran is also ready to take reasonable steps to demonstrate that its nuclear program is entirely for peaceful purposes. He said Iran will assess how serious and prepared the other side is for a fair and realistic deal. The comments come after Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and his accompanying delegation are in Muscat for the third round of Iran-US talks mediated by Oman. The negotiations, which include expert-level talks, will be held on Saturday. Both sides say progress was made in previous rounds.
