Regional crisis caused by continuation of Israeli war crimes: Iran

Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kan’ani

Iran has described continued war crimes committed by Israel against the oppressed Palestinian people as the cause of the current crisis gripping West Asia.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kan’ani made the remarks at a weekly press briefing on Monday, as Israel’s US-backed genocide in the besieged Gaza Strip entered its 115th day.

“The Gaza Strip has witnessed the most brutal attacks by the occupying regime... The crisis in the region is the outcome of the continuation of war crimes by the Zionist regime,” he added.

“Unfortunately, the international community and the [United Nations] Security Council failed to fulfill their duty in ending the crisis due to the United States’ unconstructive actions. Iran is interested in strengthening stability in the region.”

The top diplomat also echoed remarks made last week by the Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, who had called on Muslim countries to cut off Israel’s vital arteries by severing their political and economic relations with the occupying regime.

Kan’ani said that the Islamic states have tools to cut off the vital arteries of the Zionist regime and that they should not wait for international organizations to take action because they are controlled by pro-Israel governments.

Israel waged its brutal war on Gaza on October 7 following a historic operation by the Palestinian Hamas resistance group against the occupying entity.

So far, the Tel Aviv regime has killed at least 26,422 Palestinians, mostly women and children, and injured at least 65,087 others.

‘Red Sea developments spillover of Israeli oppression against Gazans’

A recent report claimed that China had asked Iran to help rein in Yemeni attacks on ships or risk harming business ties with Beijing.

The top diplomat rejected the report, noting that Iran and China support convergence and that they have expressed their commitment to establish justice, resolve conflicts, and counter tensions in the region.

“We have always held joint consultations... The developments in the Red Sea are the spillover of the overt oppression that we are witnessing in Gaza, this is China’s position,” he said.

In solidarity with the Palestinians in Gaza, Yemeni forces have targeted ships in the southern Red Sea, the Bab al-Mandeb Strait, the Gulf of Aden, and even in the Arabian Sea with owners linked to Israel or those going to and from ports in the occupied territories.

‘Iran does not want tensions with US’

The spokesman further warned that the continuation of the Israeli onslaught on Gaza will lead to instability.

“Iran’s clear viewpoint is that stability in the region benefits all sides. There must be an end to the war crimes, the siege, and the evil policy of displacing the people of Gaza,” he said.

“We do not want tensions with any side, not even with the US. We should look at the issues in the region realistically.”

Additionally in his remarks, Kan’ani said that Iran’s relations with Iraq are strong and have solid foundations.

He also noted that the two neighboring countries have serious political will to keep up their strong ties.
