'Revival of JCPOA possible'

Iran’s foreign minister says the 2015 deal, known as the JCPOA, can be revived if the US abandons its double standards. Hossein Amir-Abdollahian urged Washington to show its will for the revival of the pact and, consequently, the removal of anti-Iran sanctions. The Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action was signed between Iran, China, Russia, the US, France, Germany and the UK in 2015. But the deal was torpedoed after former US president Donald Trump pulled out of it in 2018 and re-imposed sanctions against Tehran. The Islamic Republic says it has abided by its commitments under the deal, blaming the US for its unilateral withdrawal.

Israel atrocities

Over 30 Palestinians have been injured as Israeli forces attack protesters in the besieged Gaza Strip. The protesters gathered near the fence separating Gaza from the occupied territories. They expressed support for the al-Aqsa mosque and the occupied West Bank, amid rising acts of violence committed by Israeli forces and settlers against Palestinians there. They also voiced solidarity with Palestinians held in Israeli jails. Israeli forces used live ammunition and tear gas to disperse the protesters. In response, the protesters launched incendiary balloons toward Israeli settlements near Gaza, causing fires. Israeli forces then launched aerial and artillery attacks on resistance positions in eastern Gaza, injuring at least one Palestinian.

US auto workers strike

The US auto workers union expands its strikes against General Motors and Stellantis to their entire spare parts distribution network in a spat over pay. The additional measures mean about 56 hundred workers join the nearly 13,000 already on strike. The United Automobile Workers union has also invited President Joe Biden to come to the picket lines. The standoff is fueling worries about prolonged industrial action that could disrupt production and dent US economic growth. This comes as a recent poll showed significant support by Americans for the striking auto workers who seek fair working conditions.
