Spokesman: Yemeni forces' drone carried out new attack on Saudi Arabia’s Abha Intl. Airport

Yemeni forces have launched a new drone attack against Saudi Arabia’s Abha International Airport in retaliation for the Riyadh regime’s ongoing military aggression and its brutal blockade against the war-torn Arab country.

The spokesman for Yemeni Armed Forces, Brigadier General Yahya Saree, said in a statement posted on his Twitter account on Monday afternoon that Yemeni army and allied fighters from Popular Committees used a domestically-manufactured Qasef-2K (Striker-2K) combat drone in the operation.

He stressed that the unmanned aerial vehicle struck with great precision the military targets at the airport.

He noted that the airstrike comes within Yemeni forces’ legitimate right to respond to the Saudi-led coalition’s air raids as well as its siege against their homeland.

The development came more than a week after Yemen's army troops and their allies carried out a drone strike on a major air base in Saudi Arabia’s southwestern province of Asir.

They hit sensitive targets inside King Khalid Air base near the Saudi city of Khamis Mushait in the early hours of June 6, Brigadier General Saree tweeted at the time.

Yemen's Arabic-language al-Masirah television network quoted the Yemeni Armed Forces spokesman as saying that the retaliatory attack was launched by a domestically-manufactured Qasef-2K (Striker-2K) combat drone.

The strike was “accurate,” and came in response to the continuing aggression and brutal siege on Yemen, he said.

Separately on Monday, a civilian was injured in an artillery attack by the Saudi-led military coalition in Yemen’s northwestern province of Sa’ada.

Local sources, speaking on condition of anonymity, told al-Masirah TV that the victim sustained injuries as Saudi troops shelled areas in the Shada'a district of the province.

Saudi Arabia, backed by the US and regional allies, launched a devastating war on Yemen in March 2015, with the goal of bringing the government of former Yemeni president Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi back to power and crushing Ansarullah.

Yemeni armed forces and allied Popular Committees have, however, gone from strength to strength against the Saudi-led invaders, and left Riyadh and its allies bogged down in the country.

The Saudi war has left hundreds of thousands of Yemenis dead, and displaced millions more. The war has also destroyed Yemen's infrastructure and spread famine and infectious diseases across the Arab country.
