The US state of Arizona has certified the victory of President-elect Joe Biden.

Arizona joined Michigan, Nevada, Pennsylvania and Georgia on Monday to certify the former vice president’s victory, challenged by outgoing President Donald Trump.

"Every Arizona voter has my thanks and should know that they can stand proud that this election was conducted with transparency, accuracy and fairness in accordance with Arizona's laws and elections procedures despite numerous unfounded claims to the contrary," Secretary of State Katie Hobbs said at a signing event.

Hobbs, Republican Governor Doug Ducey and state Attorney General Mark Brnovich were present in the even to sign off on the documents that declared Biden had won the state by more than 10,000 votes.

"The system is strong, and that is why I have bragged on it so much," Ducey said.

Biden won the state by a slim majority although Arizona has traditionally trended toward Republicans.

A recount in Wisconsin reportedly concluded with Biden as the winner as well, while in the state of Georgia, the officials were defending the integrity of their elections against Trump.

“There are those who are exploiting the emotions of many Trump supporters with fantastic claims, half-truths, misinformation, and frankly, they are misleading the President as well, apparently,”Georgia secretary of state Brad Raffensperger said. “Once this recount is complete, everyone in Georgia will be able to have even more confidence in the results of our elections,” he said, adding that the recount, currently underway in the state, will have finished by a Wednesday night.

Georgia is also holding a runoff election on January 5, which could determine which party holds ultimate power in the upper chamber of US Congress.
