Kuwait’s new emir Sheikh Nawaf al-Ahmad al-Jaber Al Sabah has reiterated the kingdom’s unswerving support for the Palestinian nation and their struggle for the liberation of their land occupied by the Israeli regime.

During a meeting with visiting Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh on Sunday, Sheikh Nawaf said Kuwait would continue to follow in the footsteps of the late Emir Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Jaber Al Sabah, and will offer solid support to Palestine and its people.

Shtayyeh and other senior officials from the Palestinian Authority arrived in Kuwait on Sunday to offer condolences over the demise of Sheikh Sabah.

Speaking in a telephone conversation with the head of the political bureau of the Palestinian Hamas resistance movement, Ismail Haniyeh, on October 1, Sheikh Nawaf stressed that the kingdom will not alter its policies toward Palestinians and will remain committed to the Palestinian cause.

Kuwaiti activist erects map of Palestine in front of his house

Meanwhile, a 39-year-old Kuwaiti activist has installed a marble monument bearing the map of Palestine in front of his family house at Sabah al-Nasser residential area in the Farwaniya province of the country.

Muhammad Awad al-Wasmi told the Arabic-language Palestinian Safa news agency that the act was an explicit rejection of attempts by a number of Arab states to establish diplomat relations with the Tel Aviv regime.

Wasmi highlighted that the Kuwaiti nation and government have a supportive stance towards Palestine, saying, “We wanted this monument to be a symbol of our rejection of normalization [with Israel], and for anyone to know that the owners of the house support Palestinian rights.”

Last month, a number of Kuwaiti political parties roundly condemned US President Donald Trump’s claim that the Persian Gulf kingdom may soon normalize relations with Israel after the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain signed normalization agreements with the Tel Aviv regime at the White House.

The factions, in a joint statement released on September 20, called upon the Kuwaiti government to issue an official statement in rejection of Trump’s allegation.

“Kuwait will not forget the blood of the martyrs, the sufferings of mothers, children, prisoners and the wounded, and the sacrifices of generations throughout the decades of Zionist oppression and aggression against Palestine and al-Quds al-Sharif,” the statement pointed out.

Anti-Israel sentiment runs high in Kuwait. A poll conducted last year by the Washington Institute for Near East Policy, an American think tank, showed that 85 percent of Kuwaitis oppose normalizing ties with Israel.
