Israeli settlers torch West Bank mosques in ‘serious crime’ against holy Islamic sites
Israeli settlers have stormed two mosques, one of them under construction, in the occupied West Bank and set fire to them in what is condemned as a systematic campaign targeting Palestinian religious rights.
The attacks took place early on Sunday against a mosque in the village of Kur, in Tulkarm Governorate, and another mosque which was being built in the town of Qusra, in Nablus Governorate, WAFA news agency reported.
Israeli settlers also spray-painted racist slogans on the mosques’ walls, according to the report.

Abdel Azim Wadi, mayor of Qusra, said the assault against the town’s mosque burned wooden materials and construction equipment.
Meanwhile, eyewitnesses to the settler vandalism in Kur said the fire, which burned parts of the mosque’s building, was extinguished by local residents.
The Palestinian Ministry of Awqaf and Religious Affairs condemned the attack against the Kur mosque as a “serious crime” targeting Islamic holy sites, saying it violates international norms and conventions that guarantee freedom of worship and the protection of holy sites.
Carried out under Israeli forces’ protection and with their disregard, attacks on mosques go beyond individual acts and represent a systematic campaign targeting Palestinian presence and religious rights, it added.
The ministry further called on the international community and human rights organizations to take urgent action to stop such assaults and bring to account those behind the crime.
Palestinians in the West Bank have been subjected to escalating Israeli military actions and settler violence, amid the genocidal war on the Gaza Strip that has killed over 73,000 people in the coastal territory since October 2023.
Since then, Israeli forces and illegal settlers have killed at least 1,182 Palestinians across the West Bank, injured thousands, and abducted around 24,000, according to official Palestinian figures.
