Inter Milan are left with very little hope, if any, to be present in next season’s UEFA Europa League after a 2-1 home loss against visiting Juventus in Italy’s Serie A.
The Nerazzuri were after the 3 points in the Saturday match which would keep their hopes to finish among the top six intact.
The Bianconeri, on the other hand, who had already sealed their Serie A title, rested some of their regulars in San Siro after securing a spot in the final of the UEFA Champions League last Wednesday.
Inter were rather quick to score and found an opener in the 9th minute through Mauro Icardi who led Marcelo Brozovic’s rocket shot from outside the box into the net with his chest to put the home side in front.
A back pass by Mateo Kovacic became troublesome for the hosts and they were only lucky that defender Nemanja Vidic was not sent off after bringing down Juve’s striker Alessandro Matri in the box. Claudio Marchisio stepped up and converted the resulting penalty to level the match 1-1 with 4 minutes to go before the break after he sent keeper Samir Handanovic the wrong way.

Alavaro Morata then turned into the old lady hero again just as he was in their UEFA Champions League semifinal second leg encounter with hosts Real Madrid where his equalizer sent the Turin side to this year’s final. The Spaniard’s shot from outside the box was coupled with a Handanovic killer mistake and turned into the Bianconeri’s second goal with 7 minutes to go.
The result was intact until the final whistle and Inter remained 8th in the standings. They can now only mathematically hope for a league finish that sends them to the Europa League as they visit Genoa and then host Empoli in their remaining two Serie A matches.
