A fatal explosion has struck the headquarters of a militia group in Libya’s capital, Tripoli, killing one person died and wounding two others.

A security source, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the car bomb went off near the office of the Tripoli Revolutionaries Brigade near the city center on Monday.

The source added that the militia is headed by controversial Interior Ministry official, Haitham al-Tajuri.

Libya has been plagued by fighting between rival militia outfits over the past months.

The bombing was carried out almost a week after nine people, including five foreigners, were killed when gunmen stormed the luxury Corinthia Hotel in the capital.

The ISIL Takfiri terrorist group claimed responsibility for the shooting, naming the attack ‘Operation Abu Anas al-Libi’, after the Libyan computer specialist who worked for al-Qaeda and died in New York earlier this month.

Libya plunged into chaos following the 2011 uprising against the dictatorship of Muammar Gaddafi. The ouster gave rise to a patchwork of heavily-armed militias and deep political divisions.

Battle among rival militants, who had participated in the anti-Gaddafi uprising, is mainly over the control of oil facilities in eastern Libya.
