US plot for Iran’s economic collapse failed, triggered Republican election disaster: CBI chief

Abdolnaser Hemmati dismissed Scott Bessent's exaggerated claims while highlighting how Washington's war machine bankrupted its own political masters.

The Governor of the Central Bank of Iran (CBI) has declared that Washington's design to collapse Iran's economy within weeks has completely failed, noting that the aggressive economic warfare has only resulted in the political isolation and electoral defeat of the Republican Party in the United States.

Speaking in an interview, Abdolnaser Hemmati marked the one-month anniversary of the Central Bank's intervention in the currency market, stating that experts can now properly evaluate the stabilizing impact of these policies on the foreign exchange sector.

The intervention included the allocation of $10,000 foreign currency quotas for individual citizens at regulated rates, which bypassed black market speculators, drained the artificial speculative bubble, and neutralized the psychological warfare waged by hostile actors attempting to manipulate the exchange rate.

"During this period, the effort to economically isolate Iran and collapse its economy within two weeks led to the political isolation of Republicans in US legislation," Hemmati said, drawing a direct line between Washington's aggressive economic warfare and its recent domestic political fallout.

Hemmati’s remarks come in the wake of a political shift in Washington, where the Republican Party suffered a defeat in the 2026 midterm elections, losing control of Congress.

Even senior Republican figures, including Vice President JD Vance, have publicly conceded that the administration's costly and aggressive war against Iran was the primary catalyst for their electoral collapse.

The US-Israeli military aggression and illegal naval blockades targeting Iranian energy infrastructure severely disrupted global supply chains and sparked panic in international markets.

This reckless warmongering triggered a massive spike in global oil and gasoline prices.

As energy costs soared, the resulting inflation battered the American working class, driving up the cost of everyday goods and turning the US electorate against the Trump administration’s war machine.

The CBI Governor's comments also serve as a direct rebuke to US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, who has repeatedly made exaggerated and unfounded claims regarding Iran's economic fragility.

Bessent previously predicted that Iran's economy would face total collapse within weeks, a forecast that Hemmati dismissed as entirely disconnected from reality.

Bessent has also made baseless assertions that Iranian oil has been completely removed from global markets and that the country faces severe winter fuel shortages.
