An organization monitoring Israeli activities in Syria has documented 140 military incursions into the country’s south, amid an escalation in Israeli attacks and incursions since the fall of President Bashar al-Assad’s government in late 2024.
The Sijil Center said in a report on Sunday that the Israeli incursions were carried out into the southern provinces of Quneitra and Dara’a, as well as the capital province of Damascus and its surrounding neighborhoods between October 22 and 31.
The monitor group noted that Israeli incursions during the mentioned period resulted in the killing of a disabled man and the abduction of 13 civilians.
Israeli occupation forces also launched three bombardments on areas in southern Syria, established 19 mobile checkpoints, carried out 11 raids, and conducted 43 aerial surveillance missions.
Ongoing Israeli military raids in southern Syria continue despite a senior-level diplomatic engagement in Jordan in August, which brought together Asaad al-Shaibani, the chief diplomatic representative of Syria’s ruling Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) regime, and Roman Gofman, director of the Israeli Mossad spy agency.
Since the collapse of Assad’s government in early December 2024, the Israeli military has been launching a series of airstrikes against military facilities, installations, and ammunition reserves that were previously under the control of the Syrian armed forces.
Israel has faced considerable criticism for terminating the 1974 ceasefire agreement with Syria and capitalizing on instability in the conflict-affected nation to expand its territorial ambitions.
Israeli military strikes have predominantly targeted the southern Syrian provinces of Quneitra, Dara’a, and Damascus, with these regions accounting for roughly 80 percent of all verified Israeli assaults.
