Displaced Palestinians in the Gaza Strip organized a protest stand rejecting the World Food Programme's decision to reduce food aid and close a number of its distribution centers.
They warned of the repercussions of the decision on thousands of families that depend on this aid amid the siege, rising prices, and worsening living conditions.
During the stand, the protesters demanded that the programme reverse its decision and reopen the distribution points, stressing that the closure of one of the centers in the Block "G" area in the northern part of the Strip, which had been providing aid to about 1,500 families, caused a major crisis for displaced families, especially with the presence of population gatherings and shelter schools housing thousands of people in the area.
Abu Haitham Awad, one of the participants in the stand, said that reducing aid and closing distribution centers doubles the suffering of residents, noting that the quantities of bread allocated to the area had previously been reduced from about 3,000 to between 1,500 and 1,700 bundles, before the decision to close the center came to exacerbate the crisis further.
The protesters demanded that the World Food Programme reopen distribution centers and increase aid in proportion to the numbers of displaced families and their needs, warning that the continued reduction of food support will double living burdens and push more families toward food insecurity.
