Police in Barcelona cracks down on protests

Police carried out measures against protests in Barcelona on Saturday to prevent violent riots.

Police carried out measures against protests in Barcelona on Saturday to prevent violent riots and looting similar to those that took place on Oct. 24.

1,000 young people were searched and one person was detained on Saturday.

The Catalan regional capital had earlier experienced a day of violent unrest, with hundreds of young people looting and ransacking shops.

The rioters had reportedly been mobilized through social media by "Blocus," a group allegedly linked to similar violent protests across Europe in recent weeks.

Spain's Civil Guard said it had arrested a self-proclaimed leader of the "Blocus" chapter in Spain.
