Iran diplomatic push

Iran's foreign minister says Tehran is in contact with mediators to find ways to implement the country’s proposed seven-day plan to end the US-Israeli aggression. Abbas Araghchi said in a social media post that the talks with mediators are underway in order to give diplomacy a chance to succeed. He said Tehran remains in close and ongoing contact with intermediaries to review ideas that can ensure implementation of Iran's 7-Day Plan in even less than a week. Araghchi, however, warned that in parallel with the diplomatic push, Iranian Armed Forces are fully prepared to defend the country in case of any aggression. Iran conveyed its seven-day plan to the United States through Qatar in September. Back then, Araghchi said under the plan, the Strait of Hormuz would reopen within seven days if necessary conditions were met, including a ceasefire across all fronts in West Asia. Iran has also demanded the unfreezing of its assets, the lifting of sanctions on its oil sector, and an end to US naval blockade.

France protest crackdown

UN rights experts have condemned what they described as French security forces’ "unjustifiable" tactics to clamp down on weeks of student protests across the country. In a joint statement, four UN rights rapporteurs said the violence used by French police was "unacceptable" and the number of arrests and detentions "disproportionate." The experts said they were appalled by the level of violence suffered by pupils and students demonstrating across France to demand a functioning education system, decent education conditions, and appropriate school and university timetables. They added that the serious and, in some cases, irreversible injuries sustained by underage demonstrators during law enforcement operations were unacceptable and unjustifiable. The experts also slammed as disproportionate the scale of the arrests and detentions affecting several thousand people, mainly minors. They urged French authorities to undertake a comprehensive review of their policing strategies and practices in order to enable demonstrators to express their concerns.

UN support for Cuba

The United Nations General Assembly has adopted a new resolution calling for an end to the US embargo against Cuba. The resolution called on the US to lift economic, trade and financial embargo it has imposed on the island nation. It was passed with 130 votes in favor and 17 votes against. The resolution was adopted amid a major escalation in Washington’s pressure campaign against Havana, including an oil blockade and broad sanctions on Cuba's economic sectors. Following the vote, Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel said in a social media post that the world has once again spoken out overwhelmingly against the blockade. He added that the resolution was adopted despite the most blatant pressure and blackmail from the US and Washington’s "gangster-like coercion." Cuban Foreign Minister, Bruno Rodriguez, also accused Washington of seeking to "determine the nation's destiny" and "seize" its wealth.
