Iran FM slams French pres.
Iran’s foreign minister says it is too late for the French president to blame the war on Iran for the mass protests in his country over the rising cost of living. Abbas Araghchi said Emmanuel Macron had already made his position clear by assuring US President Donald Trump that he welcomed atrocities against Iranians. He urged the French president to heed public demands for freedom of assembly and sweeping change. Araghchi shared a screenshot of a message from Macron that Trump had reposted, in which the French leader said they could “do great things on Iran.” The message was sent during riots in Iran, and before the US-Israeli aggression. Araghchi also shared Macron’s latest speech, in which the French president acknowledged that protesters were right to be concerned about rising fuel prices, attributing the increase to the war in the Persian Gulf — a conflict, he claimed, that France had not been part of.
Brazil presidential debate
Brazil’s President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and Senator Flávio Bolsonaro have exchanged accusations of corruption and dishonesty in their televised debate, days before the presidential runoff. The contentious debate focused on the economy, public security, corruption and Brazil's relations with the United States, before it devolved into personal attacks. Bolsonaro criticized Lula over the cost of living, public security and social spending, accusing him of spending recklessly to secure re-election. Lula also sought to portray his opponent as out of touch with poor Brazilians, saying Bolsonaro had never used the country’s public healthcare system or taken a bus. The debate came a week before the October 25 presidential runoff. Bolsonaro finished nearly two points ahead of Lula in the election's first round earlier this month.
Iran wins world wrestling title
Iran’s team is crowned the world champs in the freestyle category of under-23-year-old wrestling championships for men days after winning the Greco-Roman top spot. Iranian freestyle wrestlers grasped the team title after Ahoura Khateri and Mahdi Yousefi beat their Russian opponents in the 65 and 79 kg categories, in that row. The gold medals gave Iran a total of four golds, one silver and four bronzes to outshine Russia. The competitions were hosted by Las Vegas, US. The hosts settled for the third place in the team standings.
