Iran warning

Iran’s new defense minister warns that any renewed US-Israeli aggression against Iran would trigger a surprise and widespread response with regional and global consequences.

Mehrdad Akhlaghi Ketabchi said Iran's armed forces are ready to defend the country and pledged to strengthen Iran’s missile, air defense and drone capabilities.

He said the Islamic Republic’s defense strategy would focus on upgrading advanced weapons systems, expanding domestic production and mobilizing the country’s private sector and scientific institutions to meet the armed forces’ needs.

He also pledged to strengthen support for Iran’s regional allies. Iran’s parliament approved Akhlaghi as the new defense minister on Sunday. Akhlaghi, a longtime senior defense ministry official, previously headed Iran’s Aerospace Industries Organization.

Saudi aggression on Yemen

Saudi Arabia presses ahead with its aggression against Yemen, killing more civilians. At least 10 people, including 5 children, were killed in a Saudi attack on a house in the Sahar district in Sa’ada province. Other people were also wounded. Meanwhile, Egypt has said it is ready to provide support to Riyadh in its aggression against Yemen. Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi called for an emergency parliamentary session to authorize him to approve any requests from Saudi Arabia for military assistance.

Albania protests

Police in Albania attack anti-government protesters in the capital, Tirana, as calls grow for the resignation of Prime Minister Edi Rama. Protesters, many of them high school and university students, took to the streets for the sixth consecutive day. Police fired tear gas and rubber bullets to disperse them. Demonstrations began on Tuesday over university conditions and high tuition fees, but have since expanded to include demands for action on the rising cost of living, social inequality and deteriorating public services. The protests follow months of anti-government demonstrations sparked by a luxury resort project linked to the family of US President Donald Trump, which critics have cited as a symbol of alleged corruption and growing inequality.
