Iran’s Foreign Ministry has confirmed that cross-border movement and exchanges with Pakistan have been temporarily suspended due to technical issues and precautionary measures, with both sides actively working to restore normal operations as soon as possible.
Speaking in response to questions from IRNA on Saturday, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said relevant authorities from the two countries remain in close contact and are holding consultations to resolve the matter promptly.
“Due to certain technical issues and the need to implement precautionary measures, cross-border movement and exchanges have been temporarily suspended,” Baghaei stated. “However, the relevant authorities of both countries are in close contact, consulting and working to resolve the issue as soon as possible so that operations at the border crossings can return to normal.”
The announcement follows reports concerning activity at land border crossings, including the Rimdan-Gabod crossing in Iran’s Sistan and Baluchestan province. Iranian officials have emphasized that the disruption is temporary and does not reflect any broader change in the strong bilateral relationship.
Iran and Pakistan share a long border and have consistently described their ties as rooted in historical, cultural, and religious bonds, as well as shared interests in regional stability.
In recent months, the two neighbors have held high-level discussions on expanding economic cooperation, enhancing border security, and coordinating against terrorist groups that operate in the border regions and threaten both countries. These groups, some of which have carried out attacks on Iranian territory, are serving external agendas aimed at destabilizing the region.
Iranian officials have repeatedly stressed that border security and the free flow of legitimate trade and travel are priorities for Tehran and Islamabad. The current technical and precautionary measures are being addressed through direct channels between the two sides, underscoring the practical cooperation that has characterized Iran-Pakistan relations in recent years.
