The Yemeni Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates has called on Muslim countries to play a constructive role and end the atrocious Saudi aggression and inhumane blockade against the nation, which have been in effect for more than a decade.

The appeal comes as the 52nd session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) opened in the Iraqi capital Baghdad on Saturday.

The Yemeni foreign ministry expressed hope that participants in the two-day meeting, which brings together representatives of all OIC member states, would not accept the Saudi allegation that Yemeni Armed Forces have launched drone and missile attacks towards the holy cities of Mecca and Medina.

The ministry went on to denounce the claim as an outright lie, which amounts to an insult to Yemeni people as they are ready to sacrifice their lives for sacred Muslim sites and sanctities.

It further noted that Yemen’s demands are fair and legitimate, underlining that they center on ending the conflict and lifting the blockade, which has caused suffering for the entire Yemeni nation.

The Yemeni foreign ministry also stressed that maritime navigation in the Red Sea remains secure, warning that any escalation by Saudi Arabia will pose a threat to shipping routes.

On July 20, the Sana’a administration declared a naval blockade against Saudi Arabia in response to “an unjust and oppressive siege” on Yemen that has persisted for nearly 12 years.

The Yemeni military has reported several successful missions targeting vessels linked to Saudi Arabia in the Red Sea.

In March 2015, Saudi Arabia and its allies imposed a blockade on Yemen and launched a large-scale war, with support from the United States and various Western nations in terms of military, political, and logistical resources.

The ongoing war has led to the deaths of tens of thousands of Yemenis. However, Saudi Arabia has failed to achieve its objective of reinstating a puppet government that serves its interests.
