The world’s oldest shipwreck has been discovered near the island of Kekova off Turkey’s Mediterranean coast, according to the Ministry of Culture.
A team of underwater archaeologists, led by Prof. Hakan Oniz of Akdeniz University, carefully examined and cleaned submerged and embedded artifacts.
The excavation began in 2026 and has led to the discovery of amphoras, a type of storage vessel, believed to be around 4,400–4,700 years old and dating back to the Early Bronze Age.
