Russian President Vladimir Putin has conveyed Iran’s stance on a possible resolution to the war to US President Donald Trump, the Kremlin said, as diplomatic efforts to end the months-long military aggression remain deadlocked over Washington’s excessive demands.

Putin met Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on the sidelines of a summit in Turkmenistan earlier this week, where the Russian leader expressed Moscow’s willingness to help broker a peaceful settlement.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Saturday that during a phone call with the US president on Friday, Putin had conveyed Tehran’s views on a possible resolution to end the seven-month war, which began with US-Israeli aggression against the Islamic Republic in late February.

"In coordination with the Iranian president, Putin conveyed the Iranian side's views on a possible resolution to the conflict to Trump," Peskov said.

The Kremlin, however, did not disclose Trump’s response or provide further details about Tehran’s proposed approach to reaching a peace deal.

Putin’s latest diplomatic effort comes amid months of stalled negotiations between Tehran and Washington, despite Moscow’s continued contacts with Iran and its offer to help facilitate a settlement.

Tehran and Washington agreed to a memorandum of understanding in June, outlining a framework for ending hostilities. However, the arrangement quickly unravelled after the US illegally blockaded Iranian ports and resumed airstrikes in violation of the MoU.

Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said earlier that Iran had presented a proposal during the UN General Assembly in New York last month, offering a seven-day process under which the Strait of Hormuz could return to normal operations if Washington took specified steps.

The proposal called for an end to the war on all fronts, the lifting of the US blockade on Iranian ports, and the release of frozen Iranian funds and assets.

He said the US response was conveyed to Iran through mediators, with Tehran subsequently reviewing Washington’s position.
