At least a woman has been killed, and several others sustained injuries in a new series of Saudi airstrikes across Yemen amid renewed fighting that has displaced more than 200,000 people since early August.

The official Yemeni Saba news agency, citing local sources, reported that the victim, identified as a daughter-in-law of Judge Ali al-Sami’I, was killed after two Saudi air raids targeted her family home in an area of the southwestern Ta’izz province.

Saudi fighter aircraft also launched two airstrikes against a government institution in the Same'a district of the same Yemeni province, with no immediate report available about possible casualties and the extent of damage caused.

Elsewhere in the northwestern Yemeni province of Hajjah, three civilians were injured after six Saudi aerial attacks targeted the Abs district.

Local sources also reported that Saudi warplanes dropped internationally banned cluster munitions into villages in the Bani Hatab area.

Cluster munitions are container bombs that release many smaller submunitions, small “bomblets”, over a wide area the size of several football fields. The use of cluster munitions is widely banned as up to 40% of submunitions do not explode upon impact, posing a danger to civilians who might later stumble upon them and be killed when they explode.

Additionally, Saudi forces fired a barrage of missiles at several neighborhoods in Yemen’s northwestern province of Sa’ada.

The projectiles reportedly struck targets in the Kitaf wa al-Boqe'e, Sahar, and al-Salem districts. No immediate reports about possible casualties were available, though.

Saudi troops also launched volleys of artillery rounds at the city of Sa’ada and telecommunications towers in the al-Safra district.

Separately, Saudi forces targeted an oil installation in the Bajil district of the western province of Hudaydah.

The Sana’a administration declared a naval blockade against Saudi Arabia on July 20, in response to “an unfair and tyrannical siege” on Yemen lasting nearly 12 years.

The Yemeni military has also announced several successful operations aimed at ships linked to Saudi Arabia in the Red Sea.

In March 2015, Saudi Arabia and its allies imposed a blockade on Yemen and launched a sweeping war, backed by military, political, and logistical support from the United States and several Western countries.

The war has killed tens of thousands of Yemenis. However, Saudi Arabia has failed to achieve its stated objective of reinstating a puppet regime that serves its interests.
